Hopkins Village Belize

Interested in cultural tourism? Then Hopkins is the place for you. Hopkins is a small coastal seaside village that has retained its rich cultural history. Hopkins is primarily inhabited by the Garifuna people, most of whom still continue their traditional livelihoods of farming and fishing.

In Belize, November 19th is Garifuna Settlement Day, a national holiday that celebrates the rich cultural legacy of the Garifuna people. A most popular attraction inside Hopkins is tasting of traditional Garifuna foods. Many restaurants in the village serve cassava bread, mashed plantains, and hudut (a soup made from fish, coconut milk, and spices).

Another major draw for travelers is its gateway to the southern portion of the Belize Barrier Reef. Belize Barrier Reef is the second largest of its kind. Hopkins offers local drumming lessons and accessibility to some of the best dive sites in Belize along with snorkeling, sandy beaches, and fishing. Hopkins is a natural wonderland and cultural hotspot. Culture is at every turn in this most friendly village, you're sure to feel welcome here!
